Josiah Andrews Obituary
Josiah Andrews Obituary
Josiah Andrews was born in Green County, Ohio September 30 1819, and died near his home near Rose Hill, May 27, in his 81st year. He was the son of Wm. P. and Catherine Andrews, and at an early age moved with his parents to Rush County, Indiana, where in 1840 he was married to Rachel Brooks. To this union, eight children were born, only two of whom survive - Wm P. and Thomas Andrews. In 1842 he came to Jasper County, where he reared his family had has since lived. His father Wm P Andrews, was one of the pioneer preachers of the Christian church in this part of Illinois, coming here shortly after the son.

Early in life deceased professed religion, and has always lived an upright Christian life, and during the last few days of his life, when he saw the sun of life fast disappearing surrounded by his children and grandchildren, he was happy in the the thought that he was prepared to go, and exhorted his friends to live a more upright and better life, and said that "though he could not see to know his friends , nor hear well the preaching of the gospel, he was ready to be taken home" With him passes away the oldest and last one of the older and respected families of our county, leaving many relatives and friends to mourn his loss, but who will always hold his memory dear. It may be said of him that his four score years were spent in a useful life, and that he lived to bless mankind.

Funeral services wer held at the family residence at 10:30 am Tuesday, conducted by Rev I.m. Hoel after which burial took place in the Andrews Cemetery.
